 24th September 2007  DIVERS V SMITHS A

The Divers started as if the they were in for another beating on their own alley. Week before they drew after having the game sewn up, and week before that losing by 1 pin.

The first leg lost 16 pins. The pins not falling for the Divers, and the other side, playing like their anchor leg was on first, pulling a staggering 122 pins to Divers 106

The second leg manage to hold the "Smiths A" to level score but the "Smiths A" still had 16 pins surplus from the first leg to their credit. One smith player getting a 35 with a 12 spare in his score.

Can the Divers do no right.

The third leg lost 2 pins, mainly due to the "Smiths A" 3rd leg getting another spare in their scores. When it looked like the Divers were about to pull pins the "Smiths A" team manage to recoup their deficits at the end.

So it looked like "Smiths A" were cruising to a comfortable win going into the final leg with a nice surplus of 18. However what a thriller.

The divers managed to pull pins back with Paul getting 2 successive 12 spares on the 3rd and 4th hands. With Divers 3 pins down it looked like they might pull off one of the great escapes. When smiths A put in a miserable 14 in the 5th hand, it looked like the Divers were ready to take the lead from Smiths A for the first time.

But fate had it the other way and the divers put in an even worst score to Smiths A of 11 ( a 6, 3 and 2). So last hand to play for.

With 5 up the Smiths A put in an 18 to make them 23 pins up on the final hand.

The Divers need 24 to win, 8 per man. Could they do it. Paul bowled first and got the 8 required (Great score of 50 on the night). It was Mick's go and he successfully knocked 8 pins over with his 3 balls. The weight was with Russ.

First ball he knocked over, he floored 5 pins and the second another 3pins to give the Divers the game and finally just to turn the screw a bit harder for Smiths A, the last ball hit the 9th pin over, which gave the game to the Divers by 2 pins in the end.

What a match.... report compiled for those who missed a thriller on the night....
